Children get hooked on fishing

Children fell hook, line and sinker for fishing this month, when they were treated to their first-ever experience of the past-time.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s popular Four Seasons Activity Centre in Tonyrefail joined forces with the Youth Offending Service to hold the interesting day out for 10 children.

As part of their holiday care sessions at Four Seasons, the children were taken to the Seven Oakes Fishery in Pontyclun and taught how to fish with Tony Morgan from the Youth Offending Service.

The children had a great day, with nearly all of them catching a fish and all of them asking for the opportunity to be repeated again during the summer holiday activities at Four Seasons.

YOS and Four Seasons have a close relationship which sees numerous activities throughout the year to benefit the young children who attend the activity centre and also the clients of the Youth Offending service.

Cllr Paul Cannon, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: “I am so pleased the children had a good time on their fishing expedition and enjoyed learning a new activity.

“All of the opportunities offered by Four Seasons are as a result of feedback from the community on what they want to see delivered by them. This includes the popular play schemes and holiday sessions.

“It is also important for us to work with our partners and the relationship with YOS is particularly important as it benefits the young people who attend Four Seasons but is also positive for the Youth Offending Service clients who are working to change their lives.”

This includes healthy eating sessions where YOS clients and Tony bring in fresh fruit and vegetables they have grown on their allotment and show the children how to prepare delicious, healthy and affordable meals from home-grown produce.

Four Seasons offers a range of activities to the community, including summer play schemes and opportunities for parents and children to spend time together.”
