Children get to the art of the issue in Ferndale

The children of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llyn y Forwyn and Darran Park Primary school have been working on ideas for a community centrepiece proposed to be located in the new walkway which links the Lime Street car park to Lake Street and the town centre.

The two schools have been participating in creative workshops to identify a community centrepiece to finalise the scheme. The pupils continued their work from earlier workshops and the most popular design was a small scale 3D Village. Photographs of the past and present inspired the proposal, and provided the opportunity to share stories and memories with the town’s older generations.

Come and view the model village proposals and the next stage of Ferndale’s regeneration proposals from Tuesday 29th June to Friday 2nd July 2010 at Trerhondda chapel or visit www.rctcbc.gov.uk/ferndaleregeneration

The ongoing work in Ferndale has been made possible thanks to the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government, as well as the Heads of the Valleys Programme and Council investment.

Cllr Paul Cannon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Housing, said: “We are committed to the regeneration of Ferndale and have shown this with visible work and improvement that is ongoing at this time.

“We have recently secured significant additional investment that will allow further improvement work to take place to ensure the vibrancy of the town for those who live, work and visit it.

“I am so pleased that the younger residents of the town have embraced this project, and I know the sessions held with them were very successful and all involved were impressed with their efforts.”
