An exhibition of colourful artwork produced by children from three Fairwater schools will be on display at the Central Library from Saturday 31st October – Saturday 14th November.
Children at Coed Y Gof, Holy Family RC and Pentrebane Primary schools have been working with the Neighbourhood Regeneration team from Cardiff Council as part of a community consultation programme on the future of Beechley Drive shops in Pentrebane.
The ‘My Shops Project’ invited the school children to discuss what they liked and did not like about the shops. It also asked the children to think about the future of the local shops. Using models, ink drawings and paintings the children were able to express their thoughts and opinions about the shops. Their work will be on display in the children’s library for two weeks at the beginning of November.
Councillor Judith Woodman, Cardiff Council Executive Member for Communities said: “It is wonderful to see children getting involved in projects in their local neighbourhood and coming up with such exciting and colourful ideas for the future of their community.”
The project, based on the Design Commission Wales ‘My Square Mile’ consultation technique, was delivered in partnership with the Communities First team.
Cardiff Council’s Neighbourhood Regeneration Team has co-ordinated the project in each school and worked in partnership with Communities First to deliver the project.
