The award-winning Rhondda Heritage Park was top of the agenda for a delegation from China who wanted to learn about the history of Wales and how we preserve it.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s major tourist attraction played host to the delegation from Xi’an who wanted to learn more about how we best preserve our heritage in the county borough.
The group met with the Council’s Museums Manager, Chris Wilson, who, with the help of an interpreter, gave a presentation of the challenges and issues faced when running the Rhondda Heritage Park.
The delegation enjoyed a guided tour of the Trehafod site, learning more about the Rhondda’s world-famous reputation as the very heartland of a once thriving coal mining industry.
Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation Cllr Robert Bevan said: “We very much welcomed the visit by our colleagues from Xi’an, an important cultural and historical city in China which itself dates back the 11th century.
“The delegates are committed to preserving the heritage of their own city and by visiting Wales – and the Rhondda Heritage Park in particular – were able to experience for themselves the dedication shown by the local authority to ensuring the heritage of our county borough is preserved for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
“We are assured that their visit was very beneficial and they returned to their homeland having learned a great deal of how we continually develop heritage trails, events and organize such projects as the Blue Plaque scheme, to not only preserve our heritage but inform and educate the public of all that Rhondda Cynon Taf has to offer.”
