Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has lent her support to the Choose Well campaign to help encourage people in Wrexham to make better choices when it comes to their health.
The campaign, a joint venture between the Welsh Government and NHS Wales, aims to help people make the right decision when accessing the most appropriate health service for their needs.
It is believed this in turn will help reduce pressure on emergency services as they face a steady increase in demand.
With paramedics and emergency departments facing pressurised situations, research suggests that even eliminating a small proportion of inappropriate calls can make a significant difference.
Launched in March 2011, the Choose Well campaign uses a colour coded thermometer to help people link their symptoms with the particular NHS service right for their need.
Rather than discourage people from using emergency services, the aim of the campaign is to highlight there are other healthcare services should you become ill or injured.
The Choose Well app is now available for iPhone, iPad and Android to provide information on the range of health services across Wales, based on an individual’s specific geographical location.
Lesley Griffiths, AM for Wrexham said:
“To help alleviate some of the unnecessary pressures on our emergency departments, I believe it is important to highlight the full range of health services available in Wrexham and across Wales.”
“Choose Well has helped raise awareness of all the different options available so people can find the relevant service, particular for their needs.”
“Not only does ‘Choosing Well’ mean you and your family receive the best treatment, it also allows busy NHS services to help people who need them most.”
