A choral scholar will be stepping out of the stalls and getting on his bike for a cross-Wales cathedral to cathedral ride to raise money for the organ that accompanies his choir.
Jonathan Titchin, from Llandaff Cathedral, began a 200 mile cycle ride on Wednesday and will be testing out the true strength of his lungs as he aims to complete the journey to Bangor Cathedral in just two days. On route he will pass through the other Cathedral towns of Brecon and Shrewsbury.
Fortunately, he has had a lot of practice of breath control – he has been a choral scholar at Llandaff for two years and, as a boy, was a treble at Exeter Cathedral for six years. Last year, he also cycled from Llandaff Cathedral to one of Wales’ other great cathedrals – St Davids.
All proceeds from the ride will go to Llandaff Cathedral’s £1.5m organ appeal. The organ – the largest to have been commissioned in a UK cathedral in more than 40 years – was unveiled at Easter but the appeal is on-going.
Jonathan set off on his ride from the stone cross at Llandaff at 9am on Wednesday.
A collection box for sponsorship money is at the back of Llandaff Cathedral.
