Christmas at Cardiff Castle 2011

Christmas is always a magical time at Cardiff Castle and this year will see Santa visiting the Castle and staying here for even longer!

From the beginning of December, Santa will make his home in the Black Tower, one of the oldest and most historic parts of the Castle.  With presents stacked to the ceiling, Victorian toys on display, tantalisingly beautiful lighting, a magical and enchanting Santa’s Grotto has been created which is certain to delight all children who make a visit to the Castle. Santa will be waiting by the fireplace in his comfy armchair with time to chat and a present for every child.

Our ever popular Victorian Christmas Tours return to offer a real flavour of a bygone Christmas.  A Victorian costumed guide will meet and take visitors on a tour through the beautifully decorated apartments.  Waiting to greet everyone in the Library will be the carol singers with a medley of favourite carols and festive music.  Amongst the rooms visitors will also see are the children’s Nursery and the Banqueting Hall where the table is set for a lavish Christmas feast.  Santa will also make an appearance with presents for all the children.   And for the perfect end to the evening, enjoy mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas music in the Interpretation Centre.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr  Nigel Howells, said, “Steeped in tradition, the Castle has always been at the heart of the city’s Christmas celebrations and this year is no exception.  With Victorian Christmas Tours and Santa’s Grotto, it’s a must do in the run up to Christmas.”
