Assembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths has lent her support for Christmas Jumper Day.
Last Friday (13 December), national charity Save the Children was calling on everyone in Wales to donate £1 and wear a festive jumper to raise money for its life-saving work.
During the build-up to the Day, Wrexham AM Griffiths helped promote the campaign by donning a festive jumper at the Senedd in Cardiff.
A major social media campaign took place highlighting the event with hundreds of schools and workplaces across Wales signing up to take part in the Day.
All money raised will help save the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children.
Every year more than 7 million children under the age of five die from easily preventable causes like diarrhoea, malaria and malnutrition. Simple solutions like vaccines, clean water and mosquito nets could save lives.
In Wales some children go through winter without a warm coat or a decent pair of shoes or are going to school hungry because they don’t get a proper breakfast.
Lesley Griffiths AM commented:
“Christmas Jumper Day is all about festive fun and making the world better with a sweater but the campaign ultimately promotes a serious message, aiming to save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.”
“Thousands of people took part from across the UK, with Save the Children expecting to raise millions of pounds to help disadvantaged children all over the world.”
