A report will be considered at the next City of Cardiff Council Cabinet meeting recommending Cardiff and Vale College, Trowbridge Campus as the site for the new school and Cardiff and Vale College post 16 development.
The recommendation is being made following public consultation that was completed earlier in the year. The consultation looked at a number of factors including proximity to pupil population, potential for future development and access to playing fields and put forward the following as possible sites:
- Cardiff and Vale College located at Trowbridge Road, Rumney
- The site of the former Llanrumney High School located at Ball Road, Llanrumney
Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Cllr Julia Magill said: “I am delighted that we have reached this important milestone to deliver a brand new, purpose built home for Eastern High school.
“Primary and secondary school pupils, parents, Headteachers, Chairs of Governors and members of the wider local communities were all able to have their say during the consultation. The decision to build Eastern High at Cardiff and Vale College, Trowbridge Campus takes account of feedback from these key stakeholders and I am confident that on balance this is the best way of providing secondary education provision for the young people in the east of the city.”
The new school will replace the existing facilities for Eastern High, currently located on the site formerly known as Rumney High School. The work will also see the demolition of the existing 1970’s Cardiff and Vale College in Trowbridge Road and construction of new post 16 facilities to be managed by Cardiff and Vale College.
