Four members of staff from Gilfach Fargoed Primary School will confront three of Wales’ highest peaks on Saturday 28th June to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care.
Angela Evans, Katherine Durbin, Leanne Ashford and Chris Owen will climb and descend Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan in just 8 hours, with 7 hours of driving between the peaks allowed. They will begin the challenge at 4am at the base of Snowdon and must be at the peak of Pen Y Fan by 6pm to be successful.
The team are supporting St David’s Hospice Care following the loss of a member of staff’s brother in law to Cancer last year. The charity provided his palliative care at the end of his life and helped his family through their loss.
With an initial target of raising £600 for the charity, the team have taken part in fundraising activities and got the whole school involved on National Wear Pink Day (Monday 23rd June) with a pink cake sale that raised £258.
Leanne Ashford said, “We have been training for the event since February with team walks in the Brecon Beacons and are now really keen to take on the challenge. The support we have received from teachers, parents and children at the school has been inspiring and we have smashed our original target of £600.”
