Gwynedd Council has been working in partnership with Probation Trust Wales recently on the former Ysgol Pendalar site as part of Focus on Caernarfon.
The former school site had suffered from a number of environmental crimes including fly-tipping. Through working in partnership the site was cleared from of waste including an old sofa, old children’s toy’s and domestic waste.
Iona Thomas, Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Town’s Officer, said:
“We are very pleased that, through working in partnership with the Probation Trust, we have succeeded in clearing the site. This is a further example of the Tidy Town’s initiative making a positive change within our community.”
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Environment Portfolio Leader, said:
“The people of Gwynedd tell us that they want clean and tidy communities and by working together we can all live in neighbourhoods that we can be proud of.
“I would urge people to respect each other and respect our environment and use the Council’s waste and recycling collection service, or use one of the Council’s waste recycling centres.”
Fly-tipping is an environmental crime, in the most extreme cases individuals who are found guilty can face a fine of up to £50,000 or up to five years imprisonment.
