Clun Primary School, from the Dragons Den to the Lion King

Years 5 and 6 pupils in Clun Primary School were charged with forming a business idea that would generate a profit. As part of the “Ogof-y-Draig,” a Dragon’s Den enterprise initiative, the young entrepreneurs came up with the idea of designing, making and selling hand made Christmas cards.

The cards were made using natural materials they had collected and their company named “Love Nature”.

The hard working children fully embraced the challenges of the project with each pupil having a role within the company including marketing, finance, sales and production. The cards were then bought by parents, friends of the school and a number of local businesses.

Head Teacher Mrs Morgan said “The entire project motivated the children to achieve specific goals and significant enterprise skills.”

Thanks to all their incredible efforts the project raised an astounding £1200. The young tycoons decided they would use the money for a trip to London to visit Parliament and a trip to the theatre to see “The Lion King.”

Council Leader Ali Thomas said “It is essential that the young people of Neath Port Talbot are given an opportunity to learn and be involved in the process of developing local business with support and guidance from our dedicated NPT teaching staff. This exciting self funding project has clearly exceeded all expectations by engaging years 5 and 6 in working together as a team, producing delightful hand crafted cards for the community allowing the pupils to gain immense knowledge to take forward into their adult lives.”
