Darren Millar, Conservative Assembly Candidate for Clwyd West, has this week given his support to the No to AV campaign.
On 5th May, a referendum will be held in the UK on whether to change the way our MPs are elected from First Past the Post to the ‘Alternative Vote’ (or AV). When asked to comment, Darren said:
“I believe a ‘yes’ vote in the AV referendum on May 5th would be a disaster for our democratic system.
“It would mean candidates who finish third could end up winning in general elections, and an end to the principle of One Person, One Vote – because under AV, supporters of extreme parties would get their vote counted more times than supporters of mainstream parties.
“We need to do all we can to ensure a ‘No’ vote on May 5th. I’d encourage everyone in Clwyd West to pledge their support for the campaign and to turn out to vote No to AV.”
