July 24 sees the 25th anniversary of the designation of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) – one of only 8 protected landscapes in Wales.
The Clwydian Range forms a 35km north to south chain of undulating hills stretching through the Vale of Clwyd in the west to the foothills of the Dee Estuary to the east; from Prestatyn Hillside in the north to the Nant y Garth pass in the South.
These areas are regarded as Britain’s most treasured landscapes and work continues to protect and preserve these invaluable tracts of land for future generations. The Clwydian Range AONB is managed jointly by Denbighshire and Flintshire County Councils, Countryside Council for Wales (CCW).
Howard Sutcliffe, AONB Officer and Countryside Operations Manager, said: “This is an important milestone and an opportunity for us to look back over the years and see what we, along with our partners and a dedicated band of volunteers, have been able to achieve and what work is still to be done to preserve this wonderful landscape.”
The Countryside Team provides an integrated service, which includes conservation, biodiversity, archaeology, education, interpretation, events, sustainable tourism, access, landscape strategy, funding applications, environmental and building management.
