Coleg Gwent staff have been learning how technology can help save time, money, and be better for the environment in a series of demonstrations at City of Newport and Pontypool Campuses.
The drop in sessions, open to all staff, are part of Coleg Gwent’s ‘Go Connect’ project. The initiative is funded by SEWTA to promote technologies and reduce the need to travel to meetings.
Expert Stuart Henderson, from the Welsh Video Network, has been on hand to highlight the advantages of Skype, phone conferencing and video conferencing.
Coleg Gwent’s Manager for Organisation and Development, Gill Pollock, said: “We are demonstrating phone conferencing – which can be done from all phones, Skype for one to one meetings, and Stuart from the Welsh Video Network has been demonstrating how to get the best from video conferencing – things are much better than they used to be.
“Our video conference rooms are linked to a national video conference network. We can link up within the College and also set up external meetings, teaching and interviews on the worldwide network.”
Staff are already beginning to see the benefits of this type of technology at the College, Sarah Howells from Coleg Gwent’s international office, said: “I use Skype to speak with prospective international students every week. I find it a friendly way of communicating and it’s always nice to see who you are talking too.”
