Collaboration is key for kids

Councils should work together to deliver stronger education support services, BCBC Cabinet Members have agreed.

Bridgend, along with Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and the Vale of Glamorgan, are teaming up in a collaborative venture which will see them working much more closely, initially on school improvement services.

In time, the joint working is likely to extend to other education support such as additional leaning needs, governor support, and schools HR.

The plan, endorsed by BCBC’s Cabinet, is in response to a Welsh Assembly Government call for local government to work more collaboratively to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.

And with all local authorities facing severe financial constraints into the foreseeable future and reductions in grants, Cabinet Members agreed new arrangements should be developed to enable the five authorities to jointly respond to national priorities and new requirements within education.
