Advances in technology have transformed the way we live, and how we learn. Coleg Gwent staff have been discussing the benefits and barriers to using text messaging in community education.
Coleg Gwent e-Learning Manager Matt Smith led the 12 month Motivate project, which was funded by JISC SWaNI FE Teaching and Learning Innovation Grants programme.
The initiative investigated how technology, particularly text messaging, benefited both teaching and learning.
Coleg Gwent staff, Principal Jim Bennett and project partners attended a conference to discuss the findings of the initiative, which included improved retention rates on courses engaged with the project, and good support through use of the technology.
“The project has been a great success,” said Coleg Gwent e-Learning Manager Matt Smith.
“We plan to continue to develop our knowledge of mobile messaging beyond this project to improve teaching and learning.”
