Coleg Gwent construction staff swapped tools for two wheels recently when they took part in a 31 mile cycle ride and raised just under £2,000 for charity.
13 lecturers and technicians from Coleg Gwent’s City of Newport Campus tackled the ride for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice with a further three staff members supporting the cyclists.
Starting at the college’s City of Newport Campus, staff followed the canal to Malpas, Pontypool and Goytre – breaking their journey at Coleg Gwent’s Usk Campus – before cycling back to City of Newport Campus via Catsash, Langstone, and the Coldra.
Plumbing technician Trevor Hull said: “It was an outstanding achievement by many of the members of staff who hadn’t ridden a bike in twenty years never mind a 31.5 mile trek! Hopefully this will become an annual event and benefit a charity which is close to our hearts.”
