Coleg Gwent has been recognised for its health and safety performance by winning an International Safety Award with distinction.
The award was given by one of the world’s leading advocates of workplace health and safety, the British Safety Council, and is supported by the Health and Safety Executive.
The award acknowledges the commitment that winners have made to improving corporate health and safety and rewards the success of achieving high safety standards. With over 600 applications from across the world, the win is a true testament to Coleg Gwent’s dedication to the health and safety of its workforce.
The International Safety Awards are open to all industries and sectors from across the globe and are independently adjudicated. They are seen as an excellent motivator for businesses looking to attain high standards in workplace health and safety.
Ian Rowe, the college’s Health, Safety and Environment Manager, said their success reflected the hard work of managers and teaching staff who had played an active role in maintaining the high standards of health and safety set by the college.
“This award is very welcome and recognised not only within the education sector but internationally and due to the rigorous adjudication process it provides a real sense of achievement,” he said.
“We have won a number of awards for our commitment to health and safety and this will continue to be a priority for us. By striving to maintain the high standards we have set ourselves, we will ensure the continued improvement of our health and safety management system.
“Awards such as the ISA spur us on and keep us focused on our goal to keep our staff and students safe.”
Congratulating the college on its success, Julie Nerney, British Safety Council Chief Executive, said: “This is an impressive and wholly deserved achievement and the college sets a fine example and a high standard for others to follow. I am particularly pleased given our own free training for 14 – 19 year olds and commitment to young worker safety that Coleg Gwent puts so much emphasis on the safety of workplace students. I wish them continued success for the future.”
