Clwyd West MP, David Jones, has been informed that Colwyn Bay hospital’s minor injuries unit (MIU) will reopen on 16 April, after closing in January, 2012.
In a letter to the MP, Geoff Lang, acting chief executive of the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, wrote:
“The Primary Community & Specialist Medicine Clinical Programme Group intend to reopen the unit from the 16th April, with the opening hours remaining as before the temporary closure – i.e. Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.”
David Jones commented:
“Whilst this is welcome news, I am extremely concerned that the MIU has been closed for so long. Colwyn Bay is the second biggest town in North Wales and has need of the facility; when I visited it in January it was exceptionally busy.
“I am also disappointed that the health board not only had to close the MIU in the first place, but also failed to reopen it by the promised date of 1 April.
“The board has also had similar difficulties in Ruthin hospital, where facilities have been closed for the second year running.
“I very much hope that there will be no further winter closures by the board.”
