Colwyn Bay waterfront project nears completion

The local Assembly Member has given his backing to a major scheme to redevelop Colwyn Bay’s waterfront.

Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West visited the Colwyn Bay waterfront project last week to check on progress and meet with staff involved in the scheme.

The £8.5million scheme is part of a wider regeneration focus in the town, will deliver significantly improved flood defences and create a family beach and marine leisure facilities. It is due to be completed later this month.

Speaking after a visit to the site Darren said:

‘The scale of this project cannot be underestimated – it is a huge piece of work and I’m delighted with the progress that has been made so far.

‘The Colwyn Bay waterfront project is a major redevelopment on the town’s seafront. It will result in a well-protected and attractive area for visitors and the local community alike. I’m delighted to give it my support.

‘The scheme has been a long time coming and is a key part of the wider regeneration of Colwyn Bay. It’s great to see real improvements being delivered in the area and I very much hope that the pier will be next on the list for a revamp.’

He added, ‘The flood defence improvements are a key part of this scheme and it is vital that once this project has been completed, attention should be focussed on improving the defences at the Old Colwyn end of the waterfront.’
