A planning application for new development on Colwyn promenade has been submitted.
The planning application for a new water sports centre, with a café / bistro, learning zone and retail space with external landscaping and car parking has been submitted to Conwy’s Planning Department for consideration and determination through the usual planning process.
The proposals were the subject of a public consultation earlier this year. Comments received from the public and interested groups during that time have been used to help draw up the final planning application.
The proposals are part of the Bay Life+ Regeneration Programme and support the key aim to stimulate investment in the area, support business stability and result in new employment and prosperity for the local population.
Once planning permission has been obtained it is hoped that work can start later this year the new Watersports Centre will be completed during summer 2012.
Council Leader, Cllr Dilwyn Roberts, said, “We’ve identified Colwyn Bay as our regeneration priority. The proposals for the waterfront are just one element in our vision to revitalise the town.”
Cllr Mike Priestley, Cabinet Member for Environment said, “These proposals, along with the coastal defence work that is already underway, are vital to the long term future of the town. We’ll have a bright, attractive and interesting seafront that everyone can enjoy.”
Funding for these promenade improvement works come from a Welsh Assembly Government regeneration grant with match funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
