Come and enjoy Glynllifon’s great outdoors

With Easter almost upon us, many families will be busy planning where to go and what to do with those precious extra holidays. Thanks to a special Easter offer, you don’t have to go far to enjoy a fantastic day out – as entry to the historic Parc Glynllifon country park will be free throughout the Easter holiday period.

During Easter, visitors will be able to enter Parc Glynllfion, near Llandwrog for free and enjoy the rich variety of wildlife, woodland walks and idyllic picnic spots. Entry to the country park will be free from 31, March until Sunday, 15 April 2012 inclusive.

Barry Davies, Gwynedd Council’s Country Parks Officer said:

“Parc Glynllifon has a rich and fascinating history. It includes majestic historic Grade 1 listed gardens which currently include a spectacular display of daffodils that are currently at their finest as well as a wide-range of birds and wildlife. As well as being a great location to enjoy walking in the outdoors there is ample opportunity to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area at your own leisurely pace. You can taste the delights of the café or bring your own lunch and enjoy a picnic in the great outdoors.

“Also, on Sunday, 8 April, the historic steam engine which was carefully and skillfully rebuilt by Fred Dibnah will also be operating, and steam enthusiast will be able to enjoy the workings of the popular steam engine.

“Promoting the local area’s heritage as well as conservation and caring for the natural environment plays a very important part in the work of Parc Glynllifon. As well as offering a fantastic and exciting place to enjoy a woodland stroll, the park also has an excellent café, shop and gallery which boasts a selection of the finest Welsh arts and craft.

“We hope that local residents and visitors to the area will make the most of the Easter offer and enjoy the fantastic open spaces at Glynllifon.

“Parc Padarn in Llanberis will also be open to the public where you can enjoy some of the country’s most stunning scenery. There’s no excuse not to go out and enjoy the great outdoors over the Easter holidays – come along to Gwynedd Council’s award-winning country parks.”

Parc Glynllifon and Parc Padarn both hold the prestigious Green Flag Award which recognises that the parks are well-maintained and managed and that they offer excellent facilities.

While you’re at Parc Glynllifon, there are a range of fun activities to enjoy:

– Woodland walks – venture off the beaten track onto one of the many paths within the park. Remember to wear suitable footwear. Dogs are welcome, but remember to keep them on a lead and ensure that you clean-up after them.
– Picnic sites – why not bring your own lunch with you and enjoy a picnic under the canopy of the trees?
– Shop and gallery – it offers a wide range of possible gifts. Why not treat a loved-one with an Easter gift which could include fantastic local artwork, hand-made jewellery, ceramics, wood work, slate craft, cards and books.

Parc Glynllifon near Llandwrog is open to the public for free from Saturday, 31 March until Sunday, 15 April 2012.
