Test your greatest sporting knowledge as S4C is organising four special quizzes across Wales to promote the channel’s current sport provision.
Sports presenter Gareth Roberts and former Wales lock Derwyn Jones will host the evenings at Newcastle Emlyn RFC (24 January), Abercwmboi RFC (25 January), Colwyn Bay RFC (26 January) and Llangefni RFC (27 January) as a panel of Welsh celebrities challenge three members of the local communities in a unique sports quiz.
Members of the audience will also get the chance to join in the banter – by taking part in some aspects of the quiz, pose questions to the celebrity panel and have a chance of winning tickets to see Warren Gatland’s Wales team in action in one of their World Cup preparation games in the summer.
Celebrities taking part during the week include Shane Williams, Nicky Robinson, John Hartson, Malcolm Allen, Gareth Davies, Dot Davies, Lowri Morgan, Dylan Ebenezer, Morgan Jones, Rhys ap William, Julian Lewis Jones and Nigel Owens.
Each quiz night kicks off at 19:30 and is free of charge. The evening will not be televised but highlights may appear on the S4C website.
S4C’s sports provision will be extended in February with live coverage of the Six Nations Championship and Wales’ Under 20s rugby match against England in Y Clwb Rygbi Rhyngwladol.
Shane Williams and Derwyn Jones join forces in Clwb Rygbi Shane (1 February) to establish and mentor Amman United’s youth team. Things are encouraging at the start of the season with Shane’s call for a new youth team getting a good response. But in their first pre-season game, it doesn’t look good when the team suffers a heavy defeat against Abercrave and ill-discipline within the squad rears its ugly head. Has the former IRB Player of the Year bitten off more than he can chew?
Sgorio will also broadcast live coverage of Gary Speed’s first match in charge of Wales as they take on the Republic of Ireland in the Carling Nations Cup on 8 February.
