Commercial litigation team expands at MLM Cartwright

Commercial law firm, MLM Cartwright, has strengthened its successful litigation practice with the appointment of Rob Willis, formerly a senior associate at Geldards LLP in Cardiff.

After spending some 15 years as a deck officer in the Merchant Navy, Mr Willis changed careers and qualified as a solicitor in 1997. Working initially as a maritime lawyer in London, Mr Willis returned to his native Cardiff in 1999 to use his extensive industry experience to develop a broad commercial practice.

Acting for clients in numerous industry sectors, Mr Willis has a particular interest in company and shareholder disputes, construction, professional negligence and product liability, as well as shipping and transport. An experienced advocate, both in court and at specialist arbitration tribunals, he is currently training to qualify as a commercial mediator, accredited by the Civil Mediation Council.

Commenting on his decision to join the firm, Mr Willis said: “Client relations are paramount when advising on disputes that are often complex and hard fought. My aim is to provide clients with the practical, cost effective advice they need in order to avoid or resolve conflicts.

“MLM Cartwright shares my core values and I am delighted to have joined such a well respected firm, where I believe I can make a real contribution to a dynamic practice.”

Since MLM Solicitors merged with Cartwright Black in 2007 to form MLM Cartwright, the firm has grown to 25 fee earners, including nine partners and five associates/senior associates.

Partner Chris Mayers, who heads the litigation group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Rob to the practice. His pragmatic approach to dispute resolution makes him an asset to MLM Cartwright and to our clients. His experience complements our extremely busy team and adds significantly to our overall commercial offering.”
