Police, school children, local groups and services recently joined forces on an environmental action day in Rhostyllen near Wrexham.
This summer Rhostyllen is entering the neighbourhood category in the Wales in bloom competition and the tidy up was the ideal way to get the village ready.
Members of Wrexham council’s street scene and housing departments, the community council, a local councillor, police and fire service representatives and Keep Wales Tidy all took part.
The Police and Fire and Rescue services visited more than 50 houses offering security advice and free home safety fire checks.
Six skips were filled with rubbish and pupils from Rhostyllen Primary School were on hand to help with a litter pick of the village’s recreation ground, where a fish was one of the more unusual things found.
Local Police Community Support Officer, Ben Madeley said: ‘‘It was fantastic to see the Rhostyllen residents coming together to work with all these agencies to make the village a cleaner place. The youngsters were really enthusiastic about helping tidy the park area. They showed a great knowledge and understanding about what we were doing and trying to achieve.’’
John Droog, chair of the Esclusham in Bloom steering group, said: “Rhostyllen Primary School has been tremendous in providing such an enthusiastic team of litter pickers. Their help plus the support from the police Wrexham County Borough Council made our environmental action day a real success.”
