The Finance Minister was in Merthyr Tydfil to see how adults in the borough are learning to fulfil their potential.
As she continues on her Wales-wide “Community Counts” Tour, Jane Hutt visited Treharris Community College to see the Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council Adult Community Learning Service in action.
The service, which receives funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, delivers adult community-based learning activities, including language courses, arts and crafts, as well as a range of personal development courses.
The Minister said:
“It is encouraging to see at first hand how Assembly Government funded projects continue to dramatically change the way people live and learn, and improve the quality of life for individuals and their families.
“It was important that I took the opportunity to meet and speak with the people who are delivering and using this first class service, and to discuss ways to continue to deliver top class services as efficiently as possible.”
Ahead of her visits, the Minister also chaired the fifth meeting of the Efficiency and Innovation Board in Merthyr Tydfil.
The Minister said:
“The Efficiency and Innovation Programme gives us the opportunity to develop new, more effective and more efficient ways of delivering public services.
“We will manage the financial challenges through an open and collaborative approach, capitalising on our ability to work across both sectors and organisations at pace.
“That’s what sets it apart and where we stand to make the greatest collective impact, both for our employees and the public we all serve.”
