Two talented Coleg Gwent photography students will have their work shown in a London exhibition later this month after being named runners up in a national photography competition.
Part time digital photography students James Roberts and Leighton Dowling from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus were recently selected as runners up for the City and Guilds 2010 photography competition, open to students on the City and Guilds photography course.
Leighton Dowling, 34 from Abercarn, said: “I’ve had an interest in photography for years and especially enjoy photographing nature. I’m thrilled to be a runner up in such a big competition. I was very lucky to capture the picture showing a spider and a wasp in my back garden and I’m delighted that it’ll now be on show in London.”
James Roberts, 28 from Swansea, works as a medical physicist in Cardiff, he said: “My interest in photography does link to my career in a small way. I deal with diagnostic images and radiation protection at work, and find the scientific process of photography really interesting.”
James entered an edited photograph showing a coloured tennis ball flying over a net with a black and white background. He said: “I was very surprised and pleased to be a runner up in the competition. I’m looking forward to spending a few days in London and visiting the exhibition.”
The exhibition will run at the Morley Gallery in London from the 21-26 July.
