Generous patients have been turning out in force to make donations to Nightingale House Hospice in return for complementary therapy treatments.
Students are providing treatments at Glyndŵr University’s on-campus complementary therapies clinic for a minimum of £10 over three days this week.
From Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 August, all money paid for treatments is going towards the Wrexham-based hospice.
Treatments on offer include acupuncture, facial acupuncture, back massage, aromatherapy back and neck massage and reflexology
Jacqueline Pearse was one of the first patients to support the fundraiser when she visited for acupuncture on Wednesday.
She said: “I come to the clinic regularly – I can’t do without my acupuncture – and it’s just fantastic to be able to support a great local cause at the same time.”
Paul Battersby, senior lecturer in complementary therapy, said: “Glyndŵr University is passionate about using its expertise to support organisations in the region and we’re very proud to be able to support Nightingale House Hospice.
“The clinic here at Glyndŵr University is a fully working complementary healthcare clinic, normally open to the public every day during term times, which allows our students to receive valuable training for their chosen career.”
Chris Andrews, area fundraiser for Nightingale House, said: “Support like this from the university is absolutely vital to the hospice. This year alone we need to find £2.2 million to keep the hospice running, so fundraising efforts like this are hugely appreciated.”
The clinic will be open from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday August 20 and 9am to 3pm on Friday August 21.
Appointments can be made in advance by calling 01978 293403.
The complementary therapy clinic is located in the Crispin Lane building of Glyndŵr University’s Wrexham campus, adjacent to Techniquest Glyndŵr.
Visitors are advised to use the Crispin Lane entrance to the university when attending the clinic, where parking is available outside the clinic building.
Glyndŵr University offers full time and part time courses in Acupuncture and Complementary Therapies for Healthcare and tutors will be on hand to discuss these at the clinic.
