Commenting on the announcement of the Labour-Plaid Government’s free laptop pilot scheme, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Education Minister, Jenny Randerson AM said:
“The shocking timing of this announcement is mind-blowing. This is about elections, not children. When we are about two weeks from the purdah period, when civil service rules prevent the UK Government making political announcements, you would expect the Labour-Plaid Government to follow the spirit of the rules and not make announcements which could be seen as blatant electioneering.
“Above all else, our children need classrooms that are warm and dry, books that are relevant and up to date and staff who are not overstretched. Those three things need to be the absolute priority for any government spending.
“We need to provide more access to ICT for the poorest children, but this needs to be done in a very careful, well planned way. When there is any whiff of electioneering, children will suffer as a result.”
