Conference to discuss key issues for Welsh rural economy

The TB eradication programme, Glastir and on-farm renewable energy are among the key topics which will be under discussion at the annual Rural Economy Conference in Llandrindod Wells later this month.

The event organised by ICAEW Wales and ACCA, with the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) takes place at the Metropole Hotel on Wednesday, February 23rd, and is sponsored by Lloyds TSB Agriculture and AMC.

The speakers include the Welsh Assembly Government’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Christianne Glossop, and tax expert Glyn Davies.

The speakers and topics under discussion are:

David Lermon, Director for Wales of the ICAEW, said: “This our fifth annual conference and it provides an excellent opportunity for all those involved in the rural economy to come together and discuss matters affecting them.

“The proposed TB eradication scheme, the new Glastir scheme, which comes into operation in 2012, and telecommunication links are key issues for those who work in the rural Wales.

“In these continuing difficult times economically, chartered accountants and other advisers do have an important role in helping farmers and rural landowners make best use of their finances.”
