Commenting on the news that St Asaph has been awarded city status as part of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Mark Isherwood AM, Shadow Minister for North Wales, said:
“This is fabulous news for the people of St Asaph and North Wales.
“I am delighted that St Asaph will be able to play a proud role in this year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations marking the dedication of our Queen to the people of Wales, the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
“There was considerable competition for this prestigious award and I congratulate other towns on their strong bids, including Wrexham, which is a growing town with a proud history and exciting future.”
Andrew RT Davies AM, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly, said:
“I congratulate the people of St Asaph on their campaign to have their town officially recognised as one of the cities of Wales.
