Connah’s Quay Library and Learning Centre returns home

Connah’s Quay Library will shortly be moving back to its permanent home in Wepre Drive following work to update and refurbish the building.

The project has been made possible by a £300,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly Government under its Libraries for Life programme, which aims to attract more people to use libraries and their facilities by modernising accommodation and the services on offer.

The investment has seen the whole ground floor opened up with a new entrance hall, improved layout and lighting and a lift to the first floor, where there is a newly equipped ICT training suite and quiet study area.

Imaginative furniture for the children’s area, a more user-friendly layout for the public access computers, and innovative stock for loan, such as audio books on MP3 player, are the highlights downstairs. Accessible toilet facilities and energy efficient windows throughout complete the refurbishment.

Flintshire County Council’s executive member for Education and Youth, Councillor Nigel Steele-Mortimer, said: “I am delighted to announce the completion of this project to refurbish one of Flintshire’s biggest libraries. The updated façade, improved access and extensive learning facilities the library can now offer will be of benefit to many people, and I am sure it will be well used by the community.”

The library will re-open in Wepre Drive at 9.30am on Monday, 1 March.
Opening hours and contact details remain the same as before. The staff are looking forward to welcoming users old and new to Connah’s Quay Library and Learning Centre, and over the next few weeks will also be inviting learning providers and community groups to view the new facilities.
