Commenring on today’s launch of the Conservatives’ policy paper A New Age of Agriculture – Our Agenda for British Farming’ Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan MP said:
“Farming has always been an important and integral part of the economy in Wales, yet under Labour in Government we have seen an appalling decline.
“Conservatives at Westminster, Cardiff Bay and in Brussels will work together to ensure a fair deal for our farmers and our rural communities.”
Shadow Rural Affairs Minister Brynle Williams AM said:
“I welcome this launch and in particular its focus on areas such as excessive red tape which is having a dire effect on the whole industry. European regulations need to be tackled early at the source, not just gold-plated at the last stage.
“The Conservatives’ commitment to a root and branch review of regulations will be welcome news to producers. Our proposals for a supermarket ombudsman aren’t about bashing the major retailers, but ensuring there is a fair return for the producer.”
