Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that residents in Conwy are set to benefit from the latest roll-out of high speed broadband.
It has been announced this week that 66 more communities across 10 local authorities in Wales, including Conwy, will get high speed fibre broadband by summer 2015 as part of the Superfast Cymru roll-out.
Once the roll-out is finished in the areas confirmed, more than 500,000 homes and businesses the length and breadth of Wales will be able to access the technology, which provides speeds many times faster than those available today.
Darren said:
“Superfast broadband has been a long-time coming to Conwy so I’m delighted that we finally have a date for its rollout in these areas.
“It is only right that homes and businesses in Conwy should be able to enjoy the benefits that faster broadband have brought to other parts of Wales. High speed communications are essential in the modern world in which we live and a growing proportion of work and business is conducted over the internet.
“I look forward to my constituents being able to benefit from this investment.”
Households and businesses are not connected to fast fibre broadband automatically. Customers who want superfast speeds need to contact an internet service provider (ISP) to sign up to receive the technology. There are several ISPs offering fibre broadband in Wales so customers can shop around and choose the package that is best for them. If they choose not to upgrade to fibre broadband, they will be able to continue using their existing broadband service.
