Council and OPC rectify problem

Improvement works have been carried out in the car park at the rear of Station Road in Port Talbot after the Older Persons Council (OPC) highlighted a problem for pedestrians.

A small wall, which looked like a step, was causing difficulties for older people and measures were needed to prevent incidents of tripping.

Meetings took place between the OPC and council officers to find a solution and, as a result, under the Council’s Urban Improvement Programme, a chain link barrier was put up to make people aware of the small wall.

Three disabled crossings were also installed to allow disabled access to the ramp at the side of the wall, making it more user friendly for wheelchairs.

Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said he was pleased that the OPC had drawn attention to the problem.

“The Older Persons Council is a much valued group of residents whose views the Council takes seriously.

“We have listened to their representations and are only too happy to have been able to put this right.”

The OPC are currently recruiting new representatives. If you would like to apply to join, please contact Carolyn Joseph-Waite on 01639 763418 or email [email protected]
