Carmarthenshire County Council has bought an eyesore derelict house in Garnant so that it can be sold and renovated.
The local authority served a Compulsory Purchase Order on the owner of 221, Cwmamman Road, and the sale has now gone through.
The local authority’s intention is to sell the property as quickly as possible and there are already a number of potential buyers.
The move was welcomed by deputy leader Cllr Kevin Madge who said it was good news for the local community and a warning to other owners who allow their properties to become derelict.
“This house has been in a terrible state for a long time and I’m delighted that the council has now bought it. We need to ensure that the site is cleared up quickly,” Councillor Madge said.
“This serves as a warning to other owners who allow their properties to become derelict and a blight on the community. I hope that in the future we will similar action over other houses that have been allowed to get into this condition.
“The council’s action is good news for the community in Garnant.”
