Monmouthshire County Council gave the go ahead this week to reorganise domiciliary (home) care for all receivers of care across the county. For many years, service users have received care services from a wide number of providers. This single member decision will result in a reduction of the number of main providers. The new contracts will ensure consistency of care and will improve the council’s ability to monitor care services people receive in terms of quality and value for money.
The contracts for care, to be announced in early March, will run for the next three to five years starting in April. All service users will continue to receive the same level of care. Many service users will continue with the same carer but this may be under a different organisation. Some service users will see a change in carer at some stage and the council will support those individuals through this period.
County Councillor Geoff Burrows, the cabinet member for Social Care who signed the single member decision this week said: “The care and well being of all service users who entrust us with providing them their care is of the utmost importance to me. I am very confident that this opportunity is going to enable better, more effective care for everyone concerned.”
