Model House Craft and Design Centre in Llantrisant is set to re-open its doors to the public this week following major restructuring.
Tenants of the award-winning centre have worked closely with members of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Corporate Estates Team along with Planning & Regeneration during the past few months to find a way forward for the business.
It comes following the decision of the company that ran the building to go into liquidation in December 2009. Model House has remained closed to the public since then while restructuring took place.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, which owns the landmark building on the Bull Ring, has heavily invested in rectifying the structural problems associated with its roof.
The work on the roof and outer walls is hoped to be completed in March 2010 and therefore the scaffolding currently enveloping the building will be removed.
They have also met continually with tenants in an effort to re-open the building to the public as it is seen as economically important to the whole of the historic town which attracts visitors on a regular basis.
The Council will continue to work with tenants to help secure the long-term future of Model House for the benefit of residents, tenants and visitors alike.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services at the Council Cllr Anthony Christopher explained: “It is hoped, the repair and improvement works being undertaken by the council will be completed within the next few weeks. The council remains committed to Model House and are currently examining a number of options that will secure its long-term sustainability.”
