Council Investment In Penrhiwceiber Bridge

Work is well underway on a major £42,000 investment programme to refurbish Penrhiwceiber Station River Bridge.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, working in partnership with the Neighbourhood Renewal Area scheme is investing the sum to undertake a four-week project to ensure the much-used bridge is restored and protected.

The work includes the complete repainting of the structure and the replacement of the parapet.

This bridge forms a vital link for pedestrians route between Penrhiwceiber Station and the Cynon Valley trail.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council in partnership with Neighbourhood Renewal Area (NRA) is investing £42,000 in the four-week project to ensure the bridge is restored and protected.

Work is expected to be completed within the next two weeks and while there will be inconvenience to pedestrians as it takes place, it is hoped they can bear with the Council as the important painting and safety repairs are undertaken.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning Cllr Andrew Morgan joined local ward members Cllr Jane Ward and Cllr Adam Fox to view the work undertaken. Cllr Morgan said: “We are pleased to work with our colleagues in the Neighbourhood Renewal Area scheme to undertake the much-needed refurbishment work at Penrhiwceiber’s popular station river bridge.

“This is not only a project involving the repainting the bridge, but also allows our engineers the opportunity to carry out specialist safety repairs.

“I’m sure that regular users of the bridge will be impressed with the final outcome and would like to thank them for their patience which the work is carried out.”
