Bridgend County Borough Council’s internal staff newspaper ‘Bridgenders’ has scooped a top award.
The council’s communications team picked up the industry-judged silver award at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards in the Best Newspaper category.
The PRide Awards are the only awards scheme that showcases the best PR work being carried out across the UK nations and regions. This year there were more than 1,220 entries across 24 awards categories.
The internal Bridgenders newspaper is produced six times a year and communicates corporate announcements, council values, news and views, staff successes and achievements to all 7,500 of Bridgend County Borough Council’s staff members. The content of the newspaper is a balance of corporate announcements, council and cabinet decisions, human resources information, light-hearted articles and regular features which revolve around staff, their work and professional development as well as their out-of-hours achievements.
Bridgend County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Councillor David Sage said: “The aim of the awards is to showcase the best PR work being carried out across the UK, helping to set industry standards.
“We are therefore delighted that Bridgend’s own communications team has been recognised as one of the best in the UK for its outstanding internal newspaper. The team works extremely hard to deliver effective communications to staff, members and of course residents, so this is very well-deserved.”
Jay O’Connor, CIPR President added: “The PRide Awards are a celebration of PR achievement and a showcase of the work implemented by the best of the best from across the UK.”
