Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Open Days are returning – with the first taking place this coming week.
This week’s Open Day at Llantrisant Leisure Centre on March 18, between 9.30am and 7pm will be the first in a series of three identical events that have been organised to show communities just how much there is on offer from the Council and how to seek the support, information and advice they need.
Services from across the Council will be showcasing what they offer during the event and this time, the Council is keen to reach out to even more people – of all ages and interests – so it can share with them the support and services that are available.
As well as finding out more about what your Council can offer you, the day also provides the opportunity for residents to ask questions and speak to those delivering services on their behalf in a user-friendly and interesting way. Representatives from all services will be there; from libraries and sport and leisure centres to recycling and support for the elderly and much much more. It will also feature information on careers, including Foster Care and details of the soon-to-be-completed Church Village Bypass.
Also available on the day will be adult education taster sessions, including jewellery-making, tracing your ancestry, completing application forms, improving interview skills, digital photography and more as well as demonstrations by local children and more to ensure all visitors have a great time.
Each of the three events will also feature a free crèche facility so parents and carers can secure the information they need – while the kids are kept occupied!
Llantrisant’s event will be special as it is also being used as the host event for two important Council initiatives. The first is the Graduate Scheme, which allows those with a 2.1 degree – irrespective of the subject or when it was attained – to apply for a fixed-term contract with the Council.
The Graduate Scheme aims to create managers of the future and challenges candidates to work across a number of directorates and services in order to generate change and innovation.
It will also see the launch of an important campaign running across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil Community Safety Partnerships to change the way parents and their children discuss alcohol and associated issues.
Celebrity mum Anna Ryder Richardson will be at the Open Day for an hour to launch the important initiative which aims to get families talking in order to generate open, responsible and productive discussions about alcohol consumption among young people.
Open Days 2010 take place between 9.30am and 7pm on:
March 18 – Llantrisant Sports Centre.
June 17 – Michael Sobell Sports Centre, Aberdare.
August 12 – Rhondda Sports Centre, Ystrad.
Cllr Clayton Willis, Cabinet Member for HR and Open Government, said: “We are so pleased to announce the return of our successful Open Days, which have received so much positive feedback from those who have attended in the last two years.”
“They really do offer something for everyone, with a chance for people to find out about adult education, careers in the Council, interventions and support for families, access to sport and leisure activities and more.”
“Because of the way they are organised, the events enable a one-stop-shop for those who want information on a specific service, or for those who just want to find out more.”
“I hope to see even more people than ever before at the latest round of Council Open Days, so we can show how we are here for you!”
