Council Practices what it Preaches on Recycling

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is practising what it preaches by ensuring all of its 14,000 employees are recycling their waste during working hours.

In a bid to keep our County Borough Council clean and green the Council’s awareness team are currently auditing the level of recycling carried out by each of its offices and cracking down on those that don’t join in!

So far the results are promising, with the Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd leading the way in the amount they recycle.

Members of the team are currently visiting each of the Council’s offices and educating staff on the benefits of recycling and showing them just how easy it is. All offices within the Council are provided with dedicated recycling areas and bins to place their dry and food waste. All waste bins have been removed from individual offices in a bid to encourage staff to use these areas.

Councillor Anthony Christopher, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services, said: “It is vital that we lead from the front on recycling and by encouraging employees to recycle in work it is hoped that they will continue to do the same at home. With over 14000 employees, most of whom are local residents, this should have a dramatic affect on the recycling we collect.

“Much work goes into ensuring Rhondda Cynon Taf remains a clean, green place in which to live, work and visit and working for the Council is no different. We expect all of our employees to champion the fight against waste.

“We are proud of our communities and open spaces and work proactively with residents to ensure they also have pride in, and take ownership of, where they live.  This is just an extension of this philosophy in ensuring that we recycle at all points during the day.

“We work with employees to educate and raise awareness so they can play a part in protecting Rhondda Cynon Taf.
