A Little Mill resident has been found guilty of fly-tipping following action taken by Monmouthshire County Council’s environmental health officers.
Mr Alan Gammon of 3 Melyn Bach Avenue received a substantial fine of £500 and was ordered to pay an additional £816 costs by Newport Magistrates Court on 21st March 2014 after he was spotted by a member of public on 12th October 2013 throwing several boxes into a lay-by on the A465 near Llanfihangel Crucorney.
The incident was reported to Monmouthshire’s Environmental Health Department and after an investigation the matter was brought before the court.
Monmouthshire’s cabinet member for Regulatory Services, County Councillor Giles Howard said:
“This hefty fine reflects the general public concern with fly tipping and the eyesore and harm it causes. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful environment in Monmouthshire enjoyed by all living, working and visiting the county. Our officers are proactive in investigating incidents and offenders will be prosecuted when caught. So the message is simple – please dispose of your waste properly”.
