Denbighshire County Council is the top performing council in Wales for collecting council tax – and has the lowest council tax arrears in the country.
Figures issued by the Welsh Assembly Government show Denbighshire’s collection rates to be 98.2% – the only authority in Wales to exceed the 98% mark.
This is the first time for Denbighshire to be named best authority for collecting council tax, although it has been a close second for the last four financial years.
Councillor Julian Thompson-Hill, Cabinet Lead Member for Finance, said: “We have a dedicated and hard-working team in Denbighshire and we are proud of the service we provide our residents.
“We offer help and advice through a variety of channels including face-to-face, mail, email, phone and leaflets. In addition, we offer a variety of payment methods: direct debit (over 10 or 12 months), online payments (24/7), cash offices throughout the county, by phone and at the post office.
“If people do find they have difficulty paying, we offer advice but also operate a robust recovery procedure which is clearly set out on our website and in our documentation.”
