More than 200 of Gwynedd’s foster carers and children came together recently to celebrate the excellent work they undertake each and every day.
The fun-day event held at Parc Glasfryn, near Pwllheli, proved to be a hugely popular occasion, with children and adults alike enjoying the various activities which were on offer. It was also an excellent opportunity for Gwynedd Council to pay tribute to the invaluable role the county’s foster carers play in caring for children and young people.
There are around 145 children in foster care in Gwynedd at present, with 80 registered foster carers who offer a place in their homes for children who need a place to stay and someone to care for them.
Councillor Dai Rees Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Social Services Portfolio Leader said:
“Gwynedd’s foster carers play a vital role by ensuring that children who for whatever reason cannot live with their parents for a period, can stay here in Gwynedd – as close as possible to their local community.
“Specialised training and financial support is available and Gwynedd Council’s Fostering Team are always available to discuss and give expert advice. Indeed, with around 80 foster carers now in Gwynedd, the Council’s Fostering team have developed a strong relationship with our network of carers.
“We are hugely grateful to Gwynedd’s foster carers for the outstanding support they provide, but we always want to hear from people who are interested in becoming new foster carers.”
Aled Gibbard, Gwynedd Council’s Service Manager for Foster Care added:
“The fun-day proved a hugely successful event, and was a wonderful opportunity for us to thank Gwynedd’s foster carers for the outstanding service they provide every day.
“The event proved popular with everyone, with even the adults joining in with the fun – from go-carting and ten pin bowling to archery and soft play.”
