Good performance in reaching national targets has led to Gwynedd Council attracting an extra £1.3 million of funding for local services from the Welsh Assembly Government.
As part of its improvement agreement with the Welsh Assembly Government, the Council had set a series of key targets for improvement during 2008/09. These targets ranged from delivering a new children’s care home to significantly increasing the number of food hygiene inspections of high risk businesses and drawing up a carbon reduction scheme for Council buildings.
An independent assessment by the Wales Audit Office has concluded that the Council has delivered on its commitments. As a result, the Council has received its full Improvement Agreement payment of £1.3 million.
Welcoming the good news, Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfed Edwards said:
“As a Council, we have had to face up to some extremely difficult decisions. As a result, this announcement comes as a timely and welcome boost.
“I am particularly proud of this success which shows that, even at a time of difficulties and cutbacks, the Council is still delivering tangible improvements for the people of Gwynedd.
“I would like to pay tribute to the lead members and all the officers at different levels within the Council who have contributed to this achievement.”
