Council tunes in to digital TV

Denbighshire County Council has gone all digital in its efforts to provide information about council services.

The Welsh Assembly Government is funding an initiative which allows county councils to have a presence on Digital TV for the next 12 months.

This is an interactive service for Sky and Virgin digital users who will be able to complete a number of interactions through their televisions,  including reporting damaged pavements, dog fouling, housing repairs, missed bins, noise, pest control, potholes, street lighting and make blue badge applications.

Sky users should press the Interactive button, choose DirectGov, press ‘Select’ on welcome pad and choose #1 – Local Services.

Virgin viewers should press the interactive button, select ‘News & Info; and then select ‘Looking Local’

For Freeview users the content will be static and for information only.

Cara Williams, Denbighshire’s Head of Customer Services, said: “Many more people have access to digital television in their homes and gone are the days when people only had the more traditional methods of accessing information about council services.

“People can now press the interactive button on their television remote control, which provides access to certain services 24 hours a day, in addition to the range of other channels that people can use, including website, face to face in our receptions and One Stop Shops, by e-mail and over the phone.”

Information on accessing council services can also be found in the A-Z guide to services, which can be found in main receptions, one stop shops, libraries and leisure centres.
