Denbighshire County Council has welcomed an inspection report which praises the services provided by Gerddi Glasfryn, the residential accommodation for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder at Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn in Denbigh.
The inspection carried out by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales found that the service provided remained highly valued by parents and young people, with evidence of good practice in providing care. Staff were praised for being committed and for aiming to provide the best care possible for young people.
The report also evidenced that the Council, the Board of Governors, acting headteacher and the school’s senior managers had provided a much improved level of leadership and direction and increased support and inclusion for the service.
The council acknowledges that there are two areas for improvement- the need to review the children’s recording system and improve this, as well as reviewing and improving the organisation of staff.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Lifelong Learning, said: “This report really does show the amount of progress that has been made to improve standards at Gerddi Glasfryn.
“In the previous inspection in 2008, 21 recommendations were made – in this one, there are only two recommendations.
“Whilst we recognise there is room for improvement and we will be acting upon them, I would like to thank the Head of Care and the dedicated staff who work to provide a high level of care for the children and young people at Gerddi Glasfryn”.
