Council welcomes renewal areas funding

Denbighshire1Denbighshire County Council has warmly welcomed news of an additional £1.35 million Welsh Assembly Government funding for private sector housing regeneration, infrastructure and environmental improvements within renewal areas in the county.

This new funding will be invested in the renewal areas of Rhyl South West East / Rhyl, Denbigh and West Parade, Rhyl.

The objectives of a Renewal Area is to halt a downward spiral of decline in an area and achieve a more pleasant, safe, attractive environment to live in, in which its residents can live more securely and healthily and in which they can take pride.

A Renewal Area is declared following a study of a specific area. This involves condition surveys of the buildings, an assessment of the socio-economic status of the area and the percentage of properties in private ownership. The study aims to determine the best option for regeneration of the area.

Improvements are carried out to external elements of buildings within the Renewal Area and include works to roofs, chimneys, windows, external walls, gutters, soil pipes and sometimes to boundary walls, external paths and paving where funding permits. Environmental improvements through projects such as the development of waste land and  improvements to existing open spaces can also be undertaken within Renewal Areas.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, said: “We are delighted that the council has been successful in its bid for funding. This funding will help us in our efforts to regenerate parts of the county and will assist in improving the condition of buildings that have fallen into disrepair and in need of regenerating.

“We have seen many properties in the renewal areas benefitting from work that has improved the quality of life for residents and helped in our efforts to improve the overall appearance of the area.”
